The Project
Typography is a powerful tool and typesetting can shape how ideas are read, felt and understood.
Thoughts on Typography and Layout is a personal project I undertook to explore type design and develop my long-form typesetting and layout skills. The project is a printed publication that contains 4 different essays on the topic of typography.
The Process
This publication was created by selecting suitable typefaces for the character of each essay to then typeset an effective and interesting layout that is legible and pleasurable to read. This resulted in a lot of experimentation with different typeface combinations and typesetting flourishes whilst trying to keep it fairly simple.
The Outcome
When finished, the final printed publication was hand bound using DIY materials, adding a tactile, craft-based layer to the experience. Thoughts on Typography and Layout is a reminder that type and the way it is set can convey a certain mood or feeling, and that type should be easy to read and enjoyable to consume.
